If you’re near our office today, you’ll hear lots of bebop and swing. We’re celebrating one of our hippest partnerships yet - Cerego and edX (and tons of great music)!
With support from the wonderful folks at the University of Texas at Austin, we’re officially announcing our collaboration with UT jazz professor Dr. Jeff Hellmer to power “Jazz Appreciation,” a new course on the edX platform.
Enrollment for Dr. Hellmer’s Jazz Appreciation course is now open – check it out on edX! The course will officially begin on January 21, 2014.
Our collaboration with Dr. Hellmer and the edX platform is the next great example of “powered by Cerego” announced in November. This first-of-kind course on Jazz Appreciation marries a unique MOOC with Cerego’s adaptive learning technology: weekly pre-recorded video lectures with personalized, self-paced learning sets powered by Cerego, that correspond to specific course goals.
There’s a lot to love about this partnership, but we’re particularly excited about the content - simply put, it rocks. Tons of great music and photos to make jazz come alive. Once you try it, you’ll see what we mean.
We’re also excited about Dr. Hellmer’s pioneering approach to assessment with this course, using Cerego as the formal grading component. Once a student has reached a memory goal in a set, the student is finished with the material – therefore discarding summative assessments such as quizzes or exams, incentivizing mastery of the course’s foundational knowledge without the anxiety associated with test taking.
The course itself is built upon the edX MOOC platform, and we hope that this will serve as a blueprint for others who are looking to transform and supercharge the learning process.
