Cerego Japan Inc., the company behind science-based adaptive learning solution Smart.fm announced on May 27, 2010 the appointment of Paul Greenberg as CEO and Representative Director.

Greenberg joins Cerego from MTV Networks where he served since August 2008 as Vice President and General Manager of Digital Media for the North Asia region. In this role he has been responsible for MTV Networks’ digital business across all platforms and brands. Leveraging this experience, Greenberg will be focused on commercialization and expansion of Cerego’s core services to consumers, businesses, and educational institutions.

Cerego Japan is a learning technology company founded in Tokyo in 2000 by former CEO Eric Young and Chairman Andrew Smith Lewis. Cerego Japan’s core service, Smart.fm is a proven efficient and effective learning and memory management solution based on Cerego’s patented Adaptive Learning System.

Prior to working at MTV Networks, Greenberg–a Canada native–was COO of Napster Japan, and was responsible for launching the Napster business in Japan, including formulating its computer and mobile strategies.

Awarded three degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)–Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Master of Science Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Master of Science Degree in Technology and Policy, Greenberg is fluent in 7 languages (French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, and Japanese, in addition to his mother tongue, English) and is experienced in the global business arena.

Regarding Greenberg’s appointment, Eric Young said, “As we move towards commercialization of our core technology in 2010 and beyond, the company felt it needed a leader with a proven track record in user-focused commercialization in the online space, coupled with experience in building consumer brands. With Paul we were initially impressed not only by his educational background and ability to learn 7 languages but also by his strong vision and concrete business model for monetizing our core learning algorithms. I am delighted to fully hand the reins to Paul.”

Greenberg said, “The Cerego Japan team has developed a market leading technology solution that is proven to be more effective than alternative online or offline solutions. More than ever before, the rapidly shrinking Japanese population is creating increased impetus for Japanese individuals and companies to engage much more deeply with the rest of the world. Functional English is the most important tool to facilitate this engagement. And the market will increasingly demand and shift toward learning solutions which are proven to be most effective. Against the backdrop, I am delighted to join Cerego Japan and build upon the successful foundation that has already been created.”

Upon Greenberg’s joining as head of Cerego Japan’s Board of Directors, Young will become a nonexecutive advisor to Cerego Japan, while continuing his chief executive role in parent, Cerego LLC. Smith Lewis will remain as Chairman and lead Cerego Japan’s formal Advisory Board.

About Cerego

Cerego offers services, such as Smart.fm, to consumers, companies, and schools in Japan and abroad.
